:: Archiving e-mail ::

When archiving old e-mail become legal issue

Nowadays, Electronic mail is extensively used in businesses, representing 92 % of all business information. It's clear that electronic document is very meaningful in term of law. However, e-mail has traditionally been considered as an impermanent. It might be erased when the time go by. Some companies don't contribute the policy in order to preserve those e-mails. They risk to encounter difficulty. Some were fined or engaged in document destruction because they couldn't produce their old emails when requested by court. Archiving e-mail now becomes a legal issue in US. The new federal rule demands to know the exact place where electronic mails are stored and be able to produce the old emails within 30 days.

Nevertheless, managing electronic traffic is a complexity. By prediction, the number of sending and receiving email probably is going to grow up to double by 2010. Those electronic mails tend to bigger in size due to broadband technology allows attached heavy pictures and multimedia files. As mailbox sizes grow, it needs proper archiving technology to manage and it is not cheap at all.

E-mail is really popular now, companies mostly use e-mail to pass on documents. It's convenient, but also not so safe. More safety works have to be done.

Hi,Arti. Your summery gave me information on problems many companies are facing now. I did not expect that companies would have a trouble in archiving e-mails (because they do not need much space like paper documents do), but in fact, they do have problems.There is no end to troubles!
