:: Pre Activity before Final Test ::

Is the individual consumer responsible? Should we rely on the consumer's common sense? What is common sense?

Yes, it is, but it isn’t their responsibility for 100%. We couldn’t rely on only consumer’s common sense, whereas consumer’s common sense is uncertain and rarely to measure what is the standard. Younger is an example, I don’t think that every younger have enough judgment to choose the right things. Even adult always make the wrong choices in their lives because of lack of knowledge.

Should the business involved be responsible for keeping the consumer safe? What is the goal of business in society?

Yes, they should be responsible to their consumers. They need to realize both their profit and consumers safe as the priority, because only the governing regulation might not be enough. In my opinion, any regulations always have vulnerable points, but if the responsibility comes from those businesses, the regulations are almost meaningless. Moreover, I believe that any businesses who think about their customers, finally they will gain a lot of supports back.

:: Improving Academic Performance ::

To improve academic performance in my opinion, the most important thing is healthy. It’s essentially to get your mind and also your body ready for studying. In my case, I know this point but I always have lack of sleeping because of many activities such as surfing internet, playing game or watching VDO at night. The second, if you expect the high academic performance, you have to beat yourselves. You have to get rid of procrastinating habits. Don’t try to do everything on the last minute. The last thing that I would like to suggest is interpersonal. I mean that good friend may influences you to improving the academic performance because they may encourage you to study hard, at the same time, you may not think that you are study alone and you can ask them with you have some troubles.

:: My Research Project ::

Research Paper:

1. Do you think your writing has improved overall by doing this paper? Explain.

Yes, I think
During I was doing the research paper, I had chances to read a lot of articles. My topic looks alike too technical, therefore I tried to gather the articles from other areas which are about economical and environmental. Certainly, we couldn’t plagiarize those professional articles, but we could learn some grammar and also some techniques of writing from them. That gives me a lot of idea to improve my writing skill.

2. What are some of the skills you improved in while doing the paper?

Beside the improving linguistic skills which mostly are reading and writing skill, I have learnt how to summarize the articles from more than 2 or 3 sources, give the citation and also gather the information from databases which are very precious for my education in the future.

3. How do you feel about your paper?

Even though, it’s not a perfect research, I satisfy what I have done. I spent many days for gathering and understanding the topic. I also had the hard time to summarize, but finally I finished it. I quite satisfy the information that seems to follow my plan.

Presentations

1. Did you enjoy listening to the presentations.

Yes, everybody has done the good jobs. Because of the variety of topics, I never got bored during the presentation. Also, they have their own styles which are very interesting.

2. What did you learn about presentation techniques while listening to them.

I tried to learn how to perform professionally during the presentation. Actually, many of them presented very professionally, but it seems to be too hard to me adjust ( hehe… maybe I would never change it in my life.)

3. What did you learn during the process of preparing for your presentations?

I learnt that using small script paper is better than using A4 paper because It’s easier to organize. (But during my presentation, I forgot to take it from my pocket at the beginning so I decided to continue without it.)

4. Were you satisfied with you own presentstion?

Yes, I think I have done my best.

:: Advertising ::

Nowadays, I don’t think that we can resist allurement of advertisement. I consider advertising is some types of brainwashing. Advertising is a powerful tool for building products image. I ever heard that in many organizations the most precious property is not real estate, factory, or product itself but it is brand. Why? Because they certainly put huge money to build the brand before it becomes well known. Advertising is everywhere. It is in the TV. It’s in the internet. It’s on big billboards beside highways. It’s even in the public toilets. It affects us and we finally become brand addicted.

:: Attending the Public Lecture ::

Ivan : Dams? Is it good?
Sang Yun : Ok
Arti : (...there are not many topics left...)
Arti : Ok !.........What is the topic?!?

Sang Yun : Good Dams Bad Dams
Arti: It's the best lecture ever...

It was 3 weeks ago. Actually, this is my first attending English public lecture. I found that their PowerPoint could help me a lot to following the content. Instructors occasionally use technical words or some difficult vocabulary that I don’t get familiar much but I could understand some words by guessing their speech and also reading some explanation from their slide. Actually, It’s really good because in my opinion, when I learn any new words in this way, it tends to be retained in my memory longer than general reading. (For me, It’s really true..)

PS. Because of we have 3 instructors for our public lecture, I feel more comfortable to listen the first speaker who is an English native speaker rather than the others and this is the benefits of living in Canada that we have more opportunities to learn the variety of pronunciations than any countries. Do u agree?

:: Post Opinion about Population ::

Population growing is very interesting topic. Many times when I learn some kinds of useful information, I always think about my country. What is my country's position. Are we considering this problem? and further more questions are so on. Thailand is an famous agricultural country. we declare ourselves as kitchen of the world (wow -_-'') and we are rich of food production, but I still not sure that if we don't pay more attention on keeping the balance of population growth, maybe we gonna be painful and have to confront its impacts soon.

:: Population PreActivity ::

Answer the Questions

1. My grandparents have totally 10 children included fathers and mother's parent and I have 4 sibling. In the future, I desire to have 3 children (2 sons and 1 cute young daughter)

2. The population of Thailand is around 60 million. It causes many problems especially in the big cities, Bangkok for instance, which seem to be too crowded and also people are stressful due to engaging high competition.

3. The world population is roughly 6.7 billion. (Alicexun, 2007)

4. The important factor in my opinion which controling populations of animal species is all about environment. If the environment is suitable, it will encourage animals to proliferate their offspring. Likewise in human, for example, the suitable environment might be considered by financial or social factors.

5. Government should take the role in order to control population properly. It’s a preventive solution to avoiding many adverse consequences such as lack of resource use, lack of space or other socially ethical problems.

:: Happiness After lesson ::

How you feel after learning Happiness Unit

According to the article about happiness I have read, I found that are interesting, many research try to figure out what is the happiness. Before, we are talking about happiness. I feel it’s a common sense. Without any worry, we may be at ease, but now I learnt that there are some links biologically between happiness and genetic. Otherwise, it reminds me buddhistic principle I have learnt since I was young. It mentions about living adequately and also focusing on the present time. It’s a truth that we should be in the middle way which is not too much and not too less. Meditation is another thing that shares the same concept of being on the present. It teach about trying to concentrate on your in-out breath that your mind will be calm and won’t have time to thinking about your personal problem. You may become more conscious then you can solve any problem in the right way. That’s amazing that the simple knowledge around 2000-3000 years can be used practically today.

PS. I’m not a religious person.

:: Happiness ??? ::

Happiness ..
is difference between satisfaction and sadness. If the level of satisfaction is more than sadness, it means your happiness score is being positive. You may feel happy. Level of hapiness is depended on the ratio of those variables. The maximal score of happiness are infinity which could be described that those infinity-score people can leap across the line of humanness. However, as a human being, it’s impossible to have zero score of sadness. In fact, there are 2 types of sadness. The constant sadness is the sadness that we are not able to avoid such as illness, love and separation.(Love is considers as a carrier of sadness) Another one is temporary sadness such as hungriness, soreness and sleepiness. The best strategy of gaining happiness is controlling the temporary sadness to the minimal level.

:: Archiving e-mail ::

When archiving old e-mail become legal issue

Nowadays, Electronic mail is extensively used in businesses, representing 92 % of all business information. It's clear that electronic document is very meaningful in term of law. However, e-mail has traditionally been considered as an impermanent. It might be erased when the time go by. Some companies don't contribute the policy in order to preserve those e-mails. They risk to encounter difficulty. Some were fined or engaged in document destruction because they couldn't produce their old emails when requested by court. Archiving e-mail now becomes a legal issue in US. The new federal rule demands to know the exact place where electronic mails are stored and be able to produce the old emails within 30 days.

Nevertheless, managing electronic traffic is a complexity. By prediction, the number of sending and receiving email probably is going to grow up to double by 2010. Those electronic mails tend to bigger in size due to broadband technology allows attached heavy pictures and multimedia files. As mailbox sizes grow, it needs proper archiving technology to manage and it is not cheap at all.

:: Skyscrapers ::

My perspective about high Skyscrapers

Skyscrapers seem to be the things that always stand aside most metropolises around the world. Apparently, they require those high building for increasing their limited uses spaces. Hong Kong, Newyork City or Chicago are the good instances. Those high buildings entirely impact the skyline of the cities. You may see high buildings everywhere instead of horizon. I have heard that price of properties and lands in Hong Kong are usaually very high. Most of people in Hong Kong are living in the condominium or high building which is difference from my country which still be possible to occuppy own lands in the metropolis. Anyways, Skyscrapers are a great solution to compact the cities. In a few years, we probably see more and more cities that have a lot of high buildings

Skyscrapers also represent the sign of prosperous and modern era. In fact, Dubai is a city which has many attracted skyscrapers. By the 2008s, the new tallest skyscraper will be finished in Dubai. I don’t think that Dubai are facing lack of land uses like Hong Kong but those skyscrapers are going to be the landmarks and it also tempt many tourists around the world to visit Dubai. Super-high skyscraper also represent the images of civilized city and show the power of human 's technology which can beat the obtacles of nature.

My experience about Skyscraper

I don’t have many experiences about super-high skyscrapers actually. The tallest floor that I have ever lived was on the 32 floor condominium building. At that height, I shook when I was looking down from the balcony but in generally I feel comfortable to stay high. I like it because most of high buildings are well design and well built. They always host many kinds of facilities such as shopping centers, entertainment centers and restaurants.

I would like to provide some information about skyscraper in my city. The tallest skyscraper in Thailand is Baiyoke Tower II. This 84-stories building was situated in the central part of Bangkok. In term of height, Baiyoke Towers II is apparently not outstanding if comparing to other super high skyscrapers in the world but if comparing among high hotel constructions. Baiyoke Towers II is 309 metres tall which is the third highest hotel building in the world and it is the tallest hotel in South-East Asia. On the 77 floor of the building, there is the 360 degree turning restaurant that you can enjoy your food and view the atmosphere of Bangkok City at the same time. I’ve been there once and it’s pretty cool. (FYI. 120 Thai baht for view seeing and 400 Thai baht for view seeing including 1 buffet style meal.)
** 30 baht = 1 canadian dollar ^^
